President John Dramani Mahama has refuted long held accusations that he owns the Chain Homes Estate terming the accusation as a myth that has been passed around human beings living in the area.

In an address at a community meeting in the estate, Mahama explained that he and his family first settled in the neighbourhood as tenants because they had difficulties finding a place to rent.

He claims that the property they lived initially was not his but one owned by a private person who entrusted Chain Homes to manage as a rental property.

So, as we wandered and we seek a place to rent and we never secured it, at last they said oh There’s a place at Chain Homes. There Chain Homes So go and check there. And round we came (0:14) It was my daughter.

Somebody had built his house there in the corner, and handed it over to Chain Homes and requested them to rent it. So, he said oh, there is this property there at the corner. See whether you like it and so Lordina went and said oh look, we have no choice anyway, so it is not whether we like it or not we are going to get it. And there we arrived at this neighborhood, said he.

According to Global InfoAnalytics poll, 66 percent of the voters feel that Ghana is moving in the right direction.

He claimed that his family did not have any particular choice, that they were just happy to have the house since they needed to be housed at that moment.

Mahama claimed that he quickly realised that he was already familiar with a number of people in the estate such as his former co-workers and classmates and this made him fit in the estate fast.

He remembered how people of the neighborhood would advise him and his family to settle in the estate, and they gave them an area of land to construct a home.

Getting to the bottom of the ownership rumours, Mahama stated that there are those jokingly saying that the estate is his.

Yes, According to them, the estate is mine. So, when you all bought these houses, you all bought them illegally since you should have paid me the money, which I got laughter with the audience.

And, he added, send my money, and ask Addai and Co. to refund my money, should you have paid them.

Another light-hearted anecdote about the military presence provided by the military security after he assumed the Presidency was given by Mahama, who admitted that this made the neighbourhood look threatening.

Although he at the time apologised to his neighbours, one resident jokingly greeted the armoured vehicles saying that they helped in keeping away undesired guests.
